The mission of Community Association of Progressive Dominicans (ACDP) is to promote and develop the physical, emotional, social and economic well-being of the residents of Upper Manhattan, the Bronx, and New York City by facilitating community empowerment through education, provision of human services, and the development of individual skills and community leadership.As ACDP approaches its 30th birthday, we have much of which to be proud. The energy and skill of committed staff members and volunteers make a measurable difference in the lives of over 27,000 families each year. We empower individuals and the communities that we serve. In 2011 ACDP celebrates 30 years of service to our community. Thanks to the energy and skill of our Executive Director Soledad Hiciano, our committed staff members and our volunteers, ACDP makes a measurable difference in the lives of over 27,000 families each year.One of our goals this year is to make sure that our community understands all of the many services that we offer.For example, did you know that in addition to all the education services that that ACDP offers, ACDP also provides day care services for pre-school children? The ACDP day care center's goals are to assist children in familiarizing themselves with their community and environment and providing them with the opportunity to explore freely using their senses, space and imagination. These activities help them acquire the fundamental skills to prepare them to enter elementary school. Parents interested in our day care services should call 212-928-6188 to make an appointment for a tour.ACDP also provides culturally sensitive and bilingual mental health services focusing its services on strengthening families. While many of its clients are walk-ins, the clinic receives referrals from psychiatric facilities, schools, hospitals, physicians, and numerous community agencies. Our NYS licensed clinic is located at 3940 Broadway, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10032. The hours of operation are Monday - Thursday from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm and Friday and Saturday from 9 am - 5 pm. ACDP was founded in 1979 and incorporated in 1980 as the first non-profit to focus on the needs of New Yorks Dominican immigrants and the communities in which they live. ACDP has organized the community to develop high quality programs providing direct assistance to 27,000 children and families annually. Clinic The Audubon Youth Program (AYP) offers free and confidential services to youth ages 5 to 18 and their families in Upper Manhattan regardless of income, race/ethnicity, sex and immigration status. AYP is dedicated to preventing and minimizing the effects of unhealthy behaviors and attitudes, in our youth and families to help build stronger and healthier communities. It provides a wide range of services to promote healthy behaviors and attitudes, academic success, and advocacy for children and families. Experienced and bilingual (English /Spanish) case managers work with families to assess their level of need in order to provide and coordinate necessary support services and referrals. AYP services include case management, preventative services, educational support and information. SYEP The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) offers work experience, teaches valuable employment skills, and provides you with a summer income. SYEP educational activities will enhance your summer experience, allowing you to develop career awareness, understanding of personal money management, and work-related social skills.SYEP is open to all New York City residents between ages 14 through 24, as of July 5 2011.The deadline to submit applications is 5/27/2011.If you have further questions about SYEP, contact NYC Youth Connect at (800) 246-4646.
